KUWAIT, Dec 2 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah has described the Kuwaiti theater as a beacon of creative, illuminative, and national theater art that fosters deep thinking and patriotism.
"We need more of this art to show the bright image of the constructive human thinking," Sheikh Salman said in his inaugural speech of the 16th Kuwaiti Theater Festival which will last till December 11.
Sheikh Salman, also chairman of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), stated that the state is keen on providing all support to the theater arts "to help deliver its noble, cultural, intellectual and illuminative message." In this regard, he uncovered that the NCCAL has an ambitious plan to overhaul existing theaters and to build new ones across the nation.
The minister, moreover, disclosed that the NCCAL plans a national competition for playwriting to discover and incentivize young talents.
He added that the ministry seeks to revive the school theaters to foster theater-loving and prepare new generation of play writers and performers.
Sheikh Salman pointed out that Kuwait's respect of the freedom of expression has led the national theater movement to prominence in the region.
He underlined that the state is totally aware of the role of culture and arts in promoting tolerance, national unity and love of the dear homeland and in countering the destructive extremist ideologies.
For his part, Assistant Secretary General of the Culture Sector of the NCCAL Bader Al-Duweesh said the NCCAL is prioritizing the theater art related activities due to its role in the society.
He noted that the state is eager to continue organization and support to the Kuwaiti theater festival to develop the theater arts in Kuwait. (end) mdm.fr.ibi
