EU denies reports on purchase of oil from ISIL

BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) has denied reports that some EU member states are buying oil from ISIL.
"The European Commission has not received any information indicating that this might be the case. So far we have not received any evidence on our economic operators breaching our regime," EU spokesperson for foreign affairs, Catherine Ray, told a news conference here today.
She noted that the EU is applying the UNSC sanctions against Al Qaeda which covers ISIL and other terrorist organizations.
This regime contains a packet of sanctions including travel ban, asset freeze and a prohibition on economic resources directly or indirectly available to Daesh, the spokesperson said.
The EU has implemented these measures, she added. (end) nk.mt
