Egyptians abroad vote in 2nd runoff of 2nd phase of marathon polling

CAIRO, Nov 30 (KUNA) -- Egyptians in diaspora are casting their ballots at the diplomatic missions' headquarters on Monday in the second runoff of the second and last phase of the multi-staged parliamentary elections.
This round of vote casting is scheduled for two days, involving eligible voters from Cairo, Qalyubia, Daqahlia, Menoufia, Gharbia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqia, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai.
Election at this level is due internally on Tuesday, also due for two days. Ballots will be cast in 99 constituencies on basis of individuals' system. Up to 426 nominees are contending for 213 seats.
Nine candidates won in the first phase of the second round in the individuals'' system. "For the love of Egypt" list won 60 seats, with turnout estimated at 29.83 percent of the electorate, in and outside the country.
Supreme Electoral Commission had declared results of the two-round polling in the first phase, covering four provinces. Up to 273 candidates won, in both the individuals and lists categories.
In the two-round first phase, 213 nominees won in the individuals' regime (108 affiliated to political parties and 105 independent figures), in addition to 60 who are members in the "for the Love of Egypt" list. Voter turn-up was estimated 26.69 percent.
Balloting is due in four constituencies, where election was scrapped according to a judicial resolution in the first phase -- namely in Al-Behaira, Alexandria, Bani Sweif, on December 5th and 6th, abroad, and the 6th and seventh of the same month locally.
Moreover, further runoff balloting is due on December 14-15 abroad, 15-16 of the same month internally, where number of the elected legislators will be complete. A number of others will be named by the president, according to the Egyptian Constitution. (end) rg.rk
