GCC Secretary-General lauds Kuwait's prominent humanitarian efforts

KUWAIT, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif Al-Zayani on Sunday commended Kuwait's distinguished humanitarian efforts, and the country's support to the UN efforts extending assistance to refugees around the globe.
Al-Zayani made his remarks to KUNA after attending a ceremony held by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to honor First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and a number of ministry officials in recognition of their humanitarian and effective role in the preparations for the international humanitarian conferences held in Kuwait.
He highlighted Kuwait's hosting of the First, Second and Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, which together helped collect USD 7.7 billion.
In addition, Kuwait organized three conferences for non-governmental organizations which brought in about USD 1 billion.
Al-Zayani stressed the fact that Kuwait was the world's top donor for 2014. He pointed to the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." The honoring was recognition of Kuwait's generosity and support to the needy worldwide, he said.
Kuwait has always been a pioneer in supporting development efforts in many developing countries, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) established in 1961, the GCC Secretary-General said. (Pick up previous) hrz.abd.msa
