Erdogan: Turkey aims to de-escalate tension with Russia

ISTANBUL, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated Saturday that his country is not seeking to escalate tension with Russia following the downing of the Russian jet on Tuesday.
Speaking to a crowd of people during the inauguration of several development projects in Midwestern Balikesir Province, the Turkish President underlined that his country does not want escalation with any country but it simply can not condone the violation of its airspace.
Turkey hopes the current tension would not have negative impacts on the prospects of future relations with Russia, he said.
President Erdogan called for resolving the crisis peacefully to avoid jeopardizing bilateral relations.
He unveiled that he may hold a meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during the upcoming climate conference in Paris, next month.
On the other hand, President Erdogan vowed that Turkey will proceed in its fight against terrorism with determination following an attack blamed on the PKK in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir in which Diyarbakir Bar Association Tahir Elci, and a police officer died after gunfire.
"This incident shows that Turkey is right to fight terrorism. We will proceed to fight against terrorism with determination," he said. (end) ta.ibi
