KFAED, AOAD sign USD-1-mln grant agreement
KHARTOUM, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed here Saturday a USD-one-million loan agreement with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD).
The grant aims to promote a national program for control over transboundary animal diseases in the Arab world.
The agreement was signed by KFAED's Deputy Director-General Hamad Al-Omar and AOAD's Director-General Tareq Al-Zadjali, in presence of Kuwaiti Ambassador in Khartoum Talal Al-Hajri and several other senior officials of the AOAD.
"This agreement is part of aid provided by the State of Kuwait to Arab humanitarian and development activities. Undoubtedly, it is a significant agreement purposed to promote and bolster cooperation and common Arab action that serves the interests of Arab countries and fulfills their people's hopes," Al-Omar addressed a signing ceremony.
He hoped that the grant deal would contribute to the success of the Arab program on the fight against transboundary animal diseases.
The program is intended to fight foot-and-mouth disease, brucellosis and rift-valley fever, which are all transboundary diseases that affect pan-Arab trade in the domain of meat and animals, AOAD's Director-General Tareq Al-Zadjali said.
He wished that the program would eventually lead to capability-building in the field of controlling such diseases by means of training 180 personnel, and 3,900 technicians working in the field of animal health in a maximum period of three years.
On his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador in Khartoum Talal Al-Hajri said such projects primarily aim to promote development and resources in Arab countries.
The grant is part of Kuwait's relentless support to Arab countries in particular, he said, noting that the KFAED helps in development projects in over 104 countries worldwide.
Making loans and providing guarantees, the Kuwait-based Fund focuses chiefly on the sectors of agriculture and irrigation, transport and communications, energy, industry, water and sewage. (end) hha.mt
