GENEVA, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the United Nations and International Organizations, Jamal Al-Ghunaim, has delivered Kuwait's endorsement of the Bern Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works to the General Director of the World Property Organization Francis Gurry.
In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, Ambassador Al-Ghunaim lauded Kuwait's adoption of the international treaty, as such a step would significantly bolster protection of authors' rights and copyrights.
Handover of the State of Kuwait's adoption of the convention will help in cementing its relations with the international organization, he added, explaining that such a commitment would encourage producers of artistic and literary works to supply the country with latest technology in this domain, "aware that such technology would be protected." Moreover, clients' confidence at this level will be boosted, with the assurance the consumers would not deal in or buy bogus products, in addition to protecting Kuwaiti literary and artistic products.
For his part, the General Director praised the Kuwaiti step, noting that Kuwait's joining of the convention "is a correct step that depicts the State of Kuwait's respect for the copy and intellectual rights." States adopted original text of the Bern convention as early as 1886. It had gone through several revisions and amendments till 1979. It stipulates rules and guarantees for producers and creators to preserve their production rights.
Kuwait is among the leading countries in the Gulf in field of intellectual and literary production. (end) ta.rk
