India successfully test-fires nuclear-capable Agni-I missile

NEW DELHI, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- India conducted a successful test-firing of nuclear-capable locally built Agni-I missile from the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on Friday.
The launch of surface-to-surface Agni-I missile from the Integrated Test Range launch pad in the morning today was part of training exercise of the Strategic Forces Command of Indian Army, IANS said quoting high level defense ministry officials.
The 12 tonne-heavy Agni-I missile, capable of hitting targets up to 700 km away, was inducted into the armed forces earlier. The missile, which is capable of carrying a payload of about 1,000 kg of both conventional and nuclear nature, was first launched on 25 January 2002.
The last successful test-firing of the Agni-I, which can be fired from road and rail mobile launchers was conducted in September 2014 was also successful. (end) atk.nfm
