ISTANBUL, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- For the second time in two days, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called in the Russian Ambassador in Ankara Andrey Karlov late Thursday to hand him a protest note over the recent attacks on Turkey's diplomatic and economic facilities Russia.
A number of offices of the Turkish diplomatic mission and companies operating in Russia have come under attack in the aftermath of the downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber that violated Turkish airspace on Tuesday.
"We sadly see that our representation offices in Russia and Turkish companies in the country have been targeted in recent days," Anadolu Agency (AA) cited a statement by the ministry as saying.
"The Russian ambassador was told to convey Turkey's expectation from Moscow officials to take additional security measures to protect Turkish diplomatic offices and premises of Turkish companies in the country.
"In line with international law, the host country is responsible for the safety of foreign missions (on its territory) under all circumstances," according to the statement. "Our concerns over this unacceptable situation have been brought to the attention of the Russian Ambassador," it added.
Turkey's embassy in Moscow was hit by stones, eggs and paint hurled by a mob of protesters on Wednesday, November 25; windows in the second and third floors of the building were smashed. (end) ta.gb
