Militant attack on Pakistani minister kills 2 policemen

ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- At least two policemen were killed and five civilians got injured as an improvised explosive device targeted the convoy of a Federal Minister, Akram Khan Durrani in Pakistan's northern Bannu area on Thursday, said police.
A senior police official, SHO Baka Khel police station told media that the Federal Minister for Housing and Works, belonging to the religious political party Jamiat Ulema e Islam Fazal (JUI-F), was on his way to Bannu after holding a political rally in Baka Khel area when his convoy came under attack.
He confirmed that the minister remained unhurt in the attack. Security forces immediately reached the blast site and cordoned off the area initiating a probe into the incident. The injured were shifted to the nearby government hospital in Bannu.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on the minister and condoled the death of his two guards in the attack.
Earlier in August, Home Minister for Punjab province, Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada was killed along with 16 others in a suicide blast at his political office near Attock city.(end) sbk.ibi
