KUWAIT, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) discussed means of scientific cooperation and nuclear safety development.
KISR chief Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi told the press, on Thursday, that this cooperation will aim at developing national human resources in the Ministries of Health, Interior and General Customs where a knowledge of nuclear and radiation safety is a necessity.
Al-Mutairi pointed out that there is an existing cooperation between KISR and Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna, adding that KISR is overseeing one of CTBTO's radionuclide monitoring stations.
CTBT is a multilateral treaty by which states agree to ban all nuclear explosions in all environments, for military or civilian purposes.
On his part, CSN's Chairman Fernando Marti lauded KISR well-equipped laboratories and well-knowledge manpower.
He also stressed the important role played by KISR as a watchdog for nuclear and radiation energies in the region.
KISR is a national contact point with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). (end) zak.nfm
