France deploys 10,800 police and Gendarmes for COP21 Conf.

PARIS, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- France is deploying 10,000 police and Gendarmes to provide extra security for the forthcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) which opens here on November 30, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Wednesday.
Around 150 Heads of State or Government are expected to intend the COP21 for at least the opening day and security will be at a maximum in light of the recent terrorist attacks that killed 130 people here on November 13.
Cazeneuve said that 8,000 police officers were being deployed on France's air, land and sea borders to vet people entering the country.
In addition, 2,800 paramilitary Gendarmes will be providing security on the COP21 site at the Le Bourget zone just north of the capital.
All public demonstrations and gatherings are currently banned in France under the terms of the "State of Emergency" laws put in place for three months after the terror attacks in central Paris and near the National Stadium just outside the city.
The Interior Minister also said that the mobilisation of special mobile units and riot police was being carried out "at a level without precedent." About 40,000 people are expected to take part in the COP21 every day during the conference which runs until December 12.
Cazeneuve said that in view of the security situation and the recent attacks, 120,000 police, Gendarmes and troops were on duty to ensure public security. About 10,000 of that number are military troops who have been drafted into Paris and other key zones. (end) jk.mt
