GENEVA, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Students accompanying Kuwait's parliamentary delegation participated in Young Parliamentarians Forum where they discussed the "catastrophic" situation of migrants and refugees worldwide.
The forum took place, on the fringes of the 133rd session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Participants in the forum lauded humanitarian efforts made by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
PM Saif Al-Azmi, who attended the forum, said in his speech that Kuwait has offered the lion's share of assistance to the refugees; the international community should follow suit and give similar aid to the unfortunate.
He added that the number of refugees has increased as of late, noting that there were only 27 million refugees in 2010; however, this number has gone up to 34 million in 2015.
On students' participation in the forum, Al-Azmi expressed appreciation to Speaker of the Arab Parliament Ahmed Al-Jarwan who praised Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim for allowing students to engage in this parliamentary experience.
Participating students, on the other hand, described this experience as "wonderful and unique." (end) rkf.nfm
