KUWAIT, Oct 7 (KUNA) -- The Environment Public Authority (EPA) announced late Tuesday that it is handling a complaint about a gas leakage from Kuwait National Petroleum Company's Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery.
In a press statement, the EPA noted that the situation is now under control and continuous monitoring and assessment from the EPA teams.
After contacting the KNPC and demanding explanation to the incident, it was found that one of the refinery's flare gas units has suffered a technical problem which caused incomplete burning of some gases and the leakage of sulfur oxides emissions for about 25 minutes.
The readings of the air quality monitoring system in the area showed a noticable increase in hydrogen sulfide emission levels during the leakage time and for a short period afterwards. But the gases vanished gradually and the air quality improved till it returned back to normal levels, it confirmed.
The EPA emphasized that all measures stipulated in the environment protection law No. 42 of 2014 would be applied in responding to the incident. (end) zak.fs.ibi
