KUWAIT, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah said Tuesday the second meeting of GCC tourism ministers and officials due in Doha on Wednesday is a significant opportunity for developing Gulf tourism.
Speaking to KUNA while leaving for Doha to attend the meeting, Sheikh Salman, who doubles as Chairman of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), said the first Gulf tourist meeting, which was held in Kuwait on October 14 2014, was a springboard for developing Gulf tourism industry.
Tourism can be used to serve the goal of diversifying national income sources in the GCC member states, the mister believed.
Tourism is of paramount significance to global economy as it makes up 15 percent of the gross global product, with many countries counting on it to boost their economies, spur small and medium-sized enterprises, generate jobs and promote their culture at both regional and international levels, he said.
The fact that the tourism sector is now in the hands of the Ministry of Information would surely lead to developing tourism in Kuwait on cultural, traditional and artistic levels, the minister added.
He stressed the significance of revamping the inter-Gulf tourist sector as a framework for sustainable Gulf tourism development with a view to reinforcing brotherly bonds among the six GCC members. (end) mdm.mt
