KUWAIT, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obeidi praised here on Monday the high scientific level of the technical discussions that took place in the first day of the meeting of the 62nd Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Al-Obeidi said in a press statement that the health ministers and heads and members of the participating delegations presented their perspectives and shared their experiences through in-depth interventions over a number of significant topics of concern to the participating delegations.
He added that the morning session dealt with working papers provided by WHO's advisers and experts where they had given their perspectives and opinions towards them.
He explained that the meeting touched on the subject of evaluating health technology and the importance of supporting the capacity of health systems through the use of appropriate methods to assess the health technology and choose the most appropriate health care within the umbrella of universal health coverage.
He said the subject of food safety in the region and its importance to public health attracted significant attention by the participants from the legislative, administrative, organizational and legal aspects as well as discussing the procedures taken by the countries of the region on food control, as well as monitoring diseases and epidemics related to food, provision of safe food for all consumers and building and developing the capacity of health systems in this important area.
He pointed out that the participants exchanged their expertise on food safety and cooperation between the Ministries of Health and other relevant agencies to develop and implement strategies and plans for food safety and put them among the top priorities of the health domain. (end) shd.tg
