ISIL blows up ancient arch in Palmyra -- Syrian official

AMMAN, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have demolished the renowned Arch of Triumph in the old Syrian city Palmyra, listed as among the world's top relics.
Maamoun Abdulkarim, the Syrian Minister of Antiquities and Museums, said in a statement broadcast by the official Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA, that the ancient arch was blown up with a bomb, planted by the militants.
The official branded the incident as "another crime perpetrated" by the ISIL against the human heritage. The ISIL gunmen have blown up several sites at the ancient city since early June. (end) tk.rk
