EU provides 2 mn euro for UN shipping inspection mechanism in Yemen

BRUSSELS, Oct 3 (KUNA) -- The EU has announced that it will provide up to 2 million euro for the establishment of the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) for commercial shipping to Yemen.
The EU contribution, together with that of other donors, will enable the UN to implement the UNVIM. This will help to facilitate the unimpeded flow of commercial items and humanitarian aid to Yemen, said EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides on Yemen, in a joint statement released here last night.
The EU called upon all parties to the conflict to improve overland access for the safe passage of humanitarian convoys for aid delivery.
"All parties should engage without preconditions in an inclusive political process facilitated by the UN Special Envoy. Only a political settlement can provide a sustainable solution to the crisis in Yemen." added the statement. (end) nk.tg
