KUWAIT, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Hend Al-Sabeeh affirmed keenness to provide senior citizens in Kuwait with best services and care.
Minister Al-Sabeeh made her remarks in a press statement Thursday on the sidelines of marking the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP), organized by the elderly care department of the social affairs ministry.
The State of Kuwait provides the elders with all forms of social, psychological, and health support, in addition to domestic and shelter rehabilitation care which benefited around 3,500 male and female elders, she said.
There is currently an intention to open newer senior care centers and clubs as part of the ministry's plan to accommodate the increasing number of elders in the country, Minister Al-Sabeeh said, noting that a new law on senior citizens is to be submitted to the Parliament's forthcoming session for approval before the end of this year.
The new law includes several privileges for the elders, particularly in domestic and shelter care, she said, confirming approval of the five-year plan on managing the seniors care department, which main specialty is to improve the mobility care, in cooperation with the health ministry due to the need for a significant number of physicians.
There are also other privileges and entertainment programs included in the new law, in addition to a number of religious and spiritual awareness programs, the Minister said, expressing her joy towards the public's participation and interaction with celebrating the IDOP with their senior families.
