Kuwait beats Malaysia 83-61 in Asian basketball tourney

CHANGSHA, China, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's national basketball team on Sunday defeated Malaysia 83-61 in its fourth match of the 28th FIBA Asia Championship, attaining its first win in the tournament.
The match started with close and competitive performance between both teams as the Kuwaiti team was gradually improving in performance and ended the first quarter in its favor 21-20.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian players succeeded in taking control during the second quarter and had the lead. However, the Kuwaiti team was able to make a comeback and end the quarter in their favor 40-33.
The Kuwaiti players were able to take full control of the match by the third and fourth quarters through their organized playing and nonstop attacks, ending the match in their favor in a very distinctive style.
Prior to today's match, the Kuwaiti team lost its first three matches in the Asian tourney to Hong Kong 50-87, Palestine 69-90, and Philippines 64-110.
The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship for Men will be the 28th continental basketball championship in Asia.
The winner of the tournament qualifies for the basketball tournament in the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placers will go under the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, as stated by FIBA and the IOC in qualification quota. (end) ayr.ma
