EU policy chief: Europe has no immediate solution to refugee crisis

ALGIERS, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Friday that the union does not have an immediate solution regarding the escalating refugee crisis in the European continent.
Mogherini made her remarks in an Algerian televised statement, stressing that the union will not abandon basic principles and respect to human rights in this regard.
The EU foreign policy chief reminded all on Europe history in the past century and the suffering to refugees due to wars, noting that the EU is currently working with neighboring countries involved for the purpose of easing the suffering of refugees.
The EU is also required to improve its crisis management with its partners, particularly in Africa, and to encourage economic and social development, Mogherini added. On Libya, Mogherini said that the country needs to regain its sovereignty, stability, and security, affirming on the need to support the Libyan people and its ambitions for a national unity government to rebuild the country.
Mogherini expected to conclude her visit to Algeria later this evening. (end) ft.mb
