Al-Maatouq thanks Jordan for hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees

AMMAN, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq, Amiri Diwan Advisor in Kuwait and a UN Envoy, addressed a letter of gratitude to King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Jordanian people for hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees.
Al-Maatouq, the UN Secretary General's Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs, in a statement to KUNA and Kuwait TV, said "We thank Jordan's King, government and people for opening their hearts, before their homes, to their Syrian brothers, who are estimated at 1.3 million." His remarks came during a dinner reception held on his honor by Kuwait's Ambassador to Jordan Hamad Al-Duaij late on Friday. Al-Maatouq is visiting the Hashemite Kingdom to inaugurate a number of charity works at His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's village within al-Zaatari refugee camp.
"The international community is following the five-year crisis in Syria and is seeking a solution for it," he noted.
In this context, Al-Maatouq pointed to His Highness the Amir's directives of helping the Syrian people and Kuwait's hosting of three donor conferences to support the humanitarian situation in the war-torn Arab country.
"Kuwait is already committed to its USD 1.3 billion obligation made during these conferences. It will always be at the forefront of helping disaster-plagued peoples." On September 9, 2015 will mark the first anniversary of the UN naming of His Highness the Amir as a 'Humanitarian Leader' and Kuwait as a 'center for humanitarian action', "a source of pride and happiness for every Kuwaiti," Al-Maatouq underlined.
