Turkish police repel attack, kill 2 PKK militants

ISTANBUL, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Two militants from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in a fire exchange with the police in eastern Turkey on Friday, according to media reports.
PKK militants were targeting a police station in the eastern province of Tunceli but the attack was repelled and two "terrorist" were killed in the fire exchange, new broadcaster NTV said.
Search is under way for more PKK members in the region.
Separately, Turkey's F-16 fighter jets today took off from the Diyarbakir air base, northeastern Turkey, and entered the Iraqi airspace.
In the meantime, PKK elements hurled petrol bombs at an office for the Freedom and Development Party (AKP) in a town in Diyarbakir province. Firemen soon contained the ensuing fire in the building. No casualties were reported, just material damage.
The attacks come one day after the parliament approved a motion extending for another year a mandate authorizing the Turkish Armed Forces to take military action in Syria and Iraq. (end) ta.msa
