Erika weakens to tropical rainstorm; flooding possible in Florida

WASHINGTON, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- While Erika has weakened to a tropical rainstorm after wreaking havoc in the Caribbean, Florida will still experience potentially flooding downpours this week, meteorologists said on Monday.
Heavy downpours will spread from Cuba to Florida and graze the Bahamas, with mudslides a concern in the mountains of Cuba, weather officials said.
At least 20 people were killed in the Caribbean by Erika, and nearly 50 others were missing on the island of Dominica, officials said.
In Puerto Rico, more than 200,000 people lost power, and crop damage across the island totaled more than 16 million dollars, they said.
In Florida, 2 to 4 inches of rain were expected along the coast and in the central part of the state, forecasters said.(end) rm.tg
