Egypt announces new landmark gas discovery

CAIRO, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Egypt Sunday announced discovery of an offshore natural gas field with an estimated reserve of 30 trillion cubic feet.
Ministry of Petroleum said in a press statement that Italian ENI oil company made the discovery of the deep-water field, located in Egypt's territorial waters in the Mediterranean.
It added that initial information also showed that the field contained around 5.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
The ministry said the new discovery, which might be the largest gas discoveries in the world, would honor the growing natural gas demands.
In Rome, ENI said the new discovery might change the global energy map. (end) rg.mn.bs
