MoI forms cmte probing pursuit of car carrying Gulf plate

KUWAIT, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- The Interior Ministry Sunday formed a committee to investigate a pursuit of a vehicle carrying a number plate of a Gulf country, and whether the pursuit complied with rules of engagement.
The ministry had said in a statement that the driver of the vehicle, which did not have a rear number plate, was driving at a high speed and in a reckless manner.
The driver, it added, drove in the wrong side of major and highways, crossed many red traffic lights and failed to obey to policemen's call to stop.
One of the police patrols hit a street light pole causing serious injuries to the two policemen, forcing a call for reinforcement. However, the escapees were driving very fast causing their vehicle to overturn killing two people inside.
Ministry Undersecretary General Sulaiman Al-Fahad ordered the formation of the committee to investigate circumstances of pursuit, "and whether there have been a violation or an improper conduct which required the punishment of anyone committing wrongdoing.
The statement said the ministry would publish the finding of the investigation. (end) bs
