Tropical storm causes death, damage in Dominica as it heads toward Florida

WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (KUNA) -- With Tropical Storm Erika wreaking deadly havoc across Dominica overnight, Florida Governor Rick Scott on Friday declared a state of emergency as the storm heads toward his state.
The storm left at least 12 people dead and more than 20 missing on the Caribbean island of Dominica, according to officials there.
Erika is on track to approach south Florida on Monday. Officials at the National Hurricane Center said the storm's conditions could change in the coming days, with some models predicting more flooding than wind damage, and forecasters unsure if Florida will take a direct hit. (end) rm.ajs
