KUWAIT, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Ambassador and Permanent Representative to United Nations organizations and Resident Representative to the IAEA in Vienna Sadiq Marafi took part, on Thursday, in a ceremony in Astana to sign the inception of an international low-enriched uranium bank (LEU Bank) between Kazakhstan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Kuwaiti ambassador attended the ceremony on behalf of First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
The bank's creation aims at limiting the spread of enrichment technology by offering nuclear facilities in member nations access to the fuel whenever they run low on stock.
It will create safer and more secure world under the usage of this nuclear power.
The IAEA received USD 150 million in contributions, enough to set up and operate the bank for a decade. Kuwait has contributed with USD 10 million. (end) nfm
