KUWAIT, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Football Association said that Kuwait would host the 23rd Gulf Cup of Nations in December as previously planned if the other seven national teams in the tournament agree.
The Association will hold a press conference next week to offer details on the tourney, Chairman Sheikh Dr. Talal Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said.
Earlier this month, the tournament was postponed for a year upon request by the Kuwaiti Association due to unpreparedness of sporting venues at home to accommodate the event.
The 23rd Gulf Cup of Nations was planned to be held in Kuwait in December, after Iraq withdrew from hosting it.
During its weekly meeting on Monday, the Cabinet said in a statement that it had been appraised of recommendations by its standing committee on youth affairs regarding the country's readiness to host the 23rd Gulf Cup.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd told the conference that the Kuwaiti Association would submit requests to the FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation to reschedule matches of the Kuwaiti national team in the Asian Cup and the World Cup.
The Association will also request shifting the Asian Cup qualifiers, juniors, due in Kuwait in September, to another country, Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd said. (end) bs.hb.msa
