Islam's brighter side should be shown -- PCIB Head

CAIRO, AUG 4 (KUNA) - Head of the Programming Committee of Islamic Broadcasts (PCIB) in Kuwait, Saad Rashid Al-Fandi stressed on Tuesday, the importance of showcasing the brighter side of Islam, acknowledging the pivotal role the Programming Committee plays in realizing this.
In a press statement to KUNA, Al-Fandi said that Islam is currently going through a tumultuous period, in light of rampant, extreme ideologies that are unreflective of the true nature of Islam.
Al-Fandi added that Islamic broadcasts need to be revamped in order to display the genuine face of Islam.
Moreover, Al Fandi revealed that during a meeting of the PCIB, Kuwait handed in a memorandum aimed at upgrading the Islamic media sector, setting a two-year time frame for the changes to be made.
Al-Fandi also stated that the Ministry of Information in collaboration with other sectors including KUNA, and at the behest of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, is prioritizing the issue of countering extremism.
In a statement to KUNA, General Manager of Islamic Broadcasting Union, Mohammed Salem Wald Boka, reaffirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that Islam's true image, one that is unmarred by extreme and radical elements, is presented. (end) ms.nam
