PAAFRA allows shrimp fishing in international waters, later in regional

KUWAIT, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- The Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAFRA) announced on Tuesday that shrimp fishing was since the beginning of this month in international waters and it will be allowed in Kuwaiti territorial waters within days.
Chairman of the (PAAFRA) Nabilah Al-Khalil told KUNA that the authority imposed the shrimp fishing ban policy in specific seasons as a measure to preserve the country's stockpile of fisheries.
The authority has a specific mechanism for coordination with the concerned authorities to reduce overfishing operations and monitor irregularities and abuses as well the application of laws concerning the organization of the fishing operations, she added.
Al-Khalil added that the authority is working to overcome the agricultural sector problems and develop it in all areas to increase domestic production and meet local market needs throughout the year. (end) mf.maj.mf.ss
