Floods claim 116 lives across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- At least 116 people lost their lives in floods and rain related incidents across Pakistan as rescue and relief operations are in full swing in flood-hit areas, said officials on Monday.
According to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 59 people died in northern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, 22 in eastern Punjab province, 20 in Pakistan side of Kashmir region, 10 in southwestern Balochistan province and five in Gilgit-Baltistan region.
Moreover, 61 people have also been injured in flood related incidents including 26 in KPK, 24 in Balochistan, five in Kashmir and two in Gilgit-Baltistan and four in Punjab.
Chitral area of KPK was the worst hit with 35 reported deaths so far and two injuries.
About 450,000 people have been shifted to the safer places in the flood. The floods have damaged over 2,700 houses and affected around 2,000 villages all over the country, said NDMA. Monsoon rains in Pakistan began on June 16 and are continuing till date. (end) sbk.ibi
