KUWAIT, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- Charge d'Affaires at Yemen's Embassy Mohammad Saleh Al-Berri on Sunday highlighted Kuwait's humanitarian contributions and the role of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to alleviate the sufferings of the Yemeni people.
Talking to KUNA, Al-Berri referred to the merited UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." He said that Kuwait's humanitarian and charity initiatives are extended worldwide.
Al-Berri referred to the "sorrowful and painful conditions" of Yemenis at home saying that Adan was destroyed and turned into a "city of ghosts." The figures of the displaced at home and those who fled the country because of the fighting have aggravated, he said. People in Yemen are suffering from rare supplies of water, food and medications, not mentioning those who were killed or injured.
Al-Berri and chairman of the KRCS Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer discussed today relief aid to Adan after the city was liberated. Initially, 10,000 food parcels bought from Djibouti will be transferred to the main southern city. 15,000 parcels will follow from Kuwait, and 15,000 from the KRCS.
The Society launched in May a campaign for the relief of the Yemeni people, and 40,000 tons of medical supplies were sent there. A month earlier, the KRCS launched a popular campaign for raising donations for Yemenis. (end) akw.gk.msa
