India says 4 citizens abducted in Libya

NEW DELHI, July 31 (KUNA) -- Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced today that four of its citizens were abducted from the city of Sirte in Libya, adding that it is trying its best to secure their release and bring back to India. Indian External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swarup said in response to a question about the abduction of Indians in Libya during a press briefing that the government sources have confirmed the news about the detention of four Indians on July 29 at around 11 PM on their way to India via Tripoli and Tunis. The abduction took place at a checkpoint approximately 50 km from Sirte. Of the four Indian nationals, two are from Hyderabad, one from Raichur and one from Bengaluru. Three of them were faculty members at the Sirte University while the fourth one was working at the Sirte University branch in Jufra. In a related development, the Indian government renewed its travel advisory and urged citizens to avoid traveling to Yemen. An external affairs ministry statement said the security situation in Yemen is still worsening and the war-torn country is suffering from various problems in the food water and health sectors.
