PKK gunmen kill two Turkish policemen in the south

ISTANBUL, July 31 (KUNA) -- Two Turkish policemen died in an armed attack carried out by gunmen of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (the PKK) in southern city of Adana, Ihlas news agency reported early on Friday.
Policemen shot dead the gunmen in a firefight that followed the deadly shooting, the news agency quoted security sources as saying. Following the incident, the police enforced extraordinary security precautions in and around the city.
The news agency noted that the incident happened shortly after warplanes of the Turkish Air Force bombed PKK outposts in northern Iraq.
Turkey has stepped up military action against the PKK in border regions.
The PKK of the imprisoned Abdullah Ocalan advocates establishing a separate Kurdish state in the border regions. (end) ta.rk
