KUWAIT, July 30 (KUNA) -- 1936 -- The first "council of Knowledge" was formed, aimed at working out educational policies for Kuwait and means to implement them.
1936 -- Eighty Kuwaiti merchants welcomed a decision to allocate 0.5 percent of custom tariff income to the budget of the Council of Knowledge, alongside four percent from fees collected by the Finance Department and another 0.5 percent of the Municipal Department fees.
1944 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued the first health regulation law, which includes 14 articles dealing with the regulation of the Heath Directorate.
1984 -- Ouda Al-Muhanna, a renowned Kuwaiti popular singer, passed away at the age of 85.
2003 -- Kuwait National Cinema Company opened three new movie theaters at Marina Mall.
2007 -- His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued law 61/2007 on audio-visual media. The law allows television and radio broadcast after obtaining licensing.
2007 -- Shooter Abdullah Al-Harbi won the gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle competition at the youth tournament held in Qatar, after getting 591 points out of 600.
2008 -- Jassem Mohammad Al-Bahar, one of Kuwait's greatest businessmen, passed away at the age of 66.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opened the Islamic culture center school in New York.
2009 -- Essa Al-Abdulatif Al-Abduljaleel passed away at the age of 97, he was the first Kuwaiti Ambassador representing Kuwait in Saudi Arabia in 1961.
2009 -- Kuwait won the Gulf Taekwondo juniors and youth championship held in Dubai, snatching five gold, two silver, and one bronze medals. (end rk
