KUWAIT, July 29 (KUNA) -- It is imperative that Kuwaiti and Iraqi commercial and economic sectors interact energetically to expedite concluding bilateral agreements with tangible dividends for both nations, said a Kuwaiti official on Wednesday.
This interaction gains urgency as the two countries have border ports of entry for land trade with convenient proximity to both markets, said Kuwait's consul in the Iraqi city of Basra Yousif Al-Sabbagh, in a statement issued by the consulate.
Al-Sabbagh visited today the Basra chamber of commerce where he was welcomed by its board of directors and its chairman Makki Al-Sudani. The Kuwaiti guest and his hosts exchanged pertinent viewpoints regarding commercial and economic cooperation.
The Basra chamber offered Al-Sabbagh an honorary sash at the conclusion of his visit, in recognition of his relentless efforts to promote Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations.
Earlier on, Al-Sabbagh had visited director of the municipality of Basra Nasrat Luaibi where the idea of town twinning between Basra and Kuwait City, with emphasis on the municipality in both cities, was considered.
Both sides were enthused about such a prospect, with Al-Sabbagh offering the Iraqi side Kuwait's longstanding expertise in running municipal affairs. (end) tma.ajs
