UN meeting on counterterrorism begins in Madrid

MADRID, July 28 (KUNA) -- The UN's counterterrorism committee meeting, focusing on halting the flow of foreigners joining terrorist groups in conflict-stricken countries, has kicked off in Madrid on Tuesday.
Over 400 experts and top officials from 70 countries are participating in the meeting, aiming to resolve the issue as the west had seen between 25,000 to 30,000 citizens or expatriates leave their country to join terrorist groups such as ISIL.
The meeting will focus on means of halting the flow of foreigners, bringing those involved to justice and rehabilitate the fighters, and make them blend with their societies.
The participants will decide on a final draft on the matter, to be presented to the Ministers of Interior and Ministers of Foreign Affairs from about 20 countries for approval later today.
The Spanish Ministry of Interior had recently announced that 126 of its citizens and expatriates in Spain had left to Syria and Iraq, adding that 25 of those had returned to the European country and are considered a threat to those around them .(end) hnd.ag
