Iraq PM calls for peaceful co-existence in region

BAGHDAD, July 27 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi has called for peaceful co-existence among all countries in the region and avoiding disputes, saying his country has distinguished relations with Iran.
Al-Abadi made the remark while receiving visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and an accompanying delegation in his office.
He added that Iran supported Iraq, since the very beginning, in its war against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political and security situations in the region and Iraq, and means of promoting bilateral relations in different fields as well as the threat of ISIL on the region, said Al-Abadi's office in a statement received by KUNA.
The Iraqi Premier underlined the importance of cooperation among the region's countries to avoid disputes, sectarianism and division.
He congratulated Zarif on the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the world powers (P5+1) in Vienna, referring that the economic sanctions are a crime against Iranians and all peoples.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Iraqi Parliament Saleem Al-Jabouri reiterated that his country is chalking up clear security achievements on the ground that will have positive effects on the region.
Al-Jabouri made the statement while receiving Zarif and his accompanying delegation late Monday.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the developments on both regional and international scenes and discussed means of boosting the bilateral relations.
Al-Jabouri lauded Iran's stance that supported Baghdad to get the right to host the conference of the parliamentary union of Islamic countries next year.
He noted that there will be positive impacts on all situations in the region, if Iraq succeeds in defeating ISIL, calling for further support to achieve this goal.
Zarif briefed Al-Jabouri on the details of the agreement, hoping that it would contribute to maintaining international peace and security.
Iran's top diplomat arrived in Iraq last night as part of a regional tour that took him to Kuwait and Qatar on Sunday. (Pick up previous) mhg.hm
