KUWAIT, July 22 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr. Helal Al-Sayer has reiterated the importance of development projects the KRCS carries out for victims of natural disasters worldwide.
Prior to his departure to Indonesia to open Al-Mubarakiya Crafts School and Al-Mubarakiya multi-purpose hall in Banda Aceh, on Wednesday, Al-Sayer told KUNA that both are a part of "Jaber Al-Ahmad Village." The village, named after Kuwait's late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his generous support to humanitarian and relief initiatives and work, was built there in the aftermath of the Tsunami that hit Southeast Asia in 2004.
It already includes 150 houses and a school, a mosque and a medical center.
According to Al-Sayer, the KRCS has carried out several projects, not only in Banda Aceh, one of the regions hard hit and damaged by the Tsunami, but in other areas in the country.
These include infrastructure, schools and libraries, he said, in addition to providing fishing boats, relief and medical supplies, support to orphans, ambulances and heavy equipment for paving roads. (end) ha.amh.msa
