Chattanooga shooter Jordanian national born in Kuwait - MoI

KUWAIT, July 17 (KUNA) -- The Interior Ministry on Friday confirmded that the man who killed four US marines in two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday was not "of Kuwaiti origin." The "terrorist" who was subsequently killed, as US officials confirmed, was "of Jordanian origin, born in Kuwait" in 1990 during the Iraqi invasion of the country. He only visited Kuwait on 31 May 2010, and left for Jordan on 18 June.
The shooter, identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, walked into the two military facilities Thursday morning and opened fire to kill four Marines.
President Barack Obama was briefed on the shooting by the Director of the FBI James Comey, but said further information has yet to emerge.
"We don't know yet all the details. We know that what appears to be a lone gunman carried out these attacks. We've identified a name. And at this point, a full investigation is taking place. The FBI will be in the lead, working closely with local law enforcement," he told reporters. (end) hb.msa
