Russia welcomes formation of joint Arab force against ISIL

MOSCOW, July 3 (KUNA) -- Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov welcomed on Friday the notion of forming a joint Arab force to fight the terrorist groups, especially ISIL, in the region.
He expressed his country's support of such a force as this notion is currently being considered by the Arab League.
He was speaking here at a press conference following talks with his counterpart from Luxembourg Jean Asselborn.
Lavrov indicated that the idea of the joint Arab force was first promulgated last week by President Vladimir Putin who said that such a force would be apt in the growing threat of ISIL in the region.
Though some are skeptical that such a force could be mustered up due to existing geo-political differences among such countries as Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Syrian regime forces and those of the opposition, Lavrov said that these countries might wish to lay aside these differences momentarily to work in unison against the looming common enemy of ISIL.
