KUWAIT, July 3 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Kuwait Football Association Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah announced that chairmen of the GCC football federations agreed to task the federation' permanent committee to take a final decision whether Kuwait would host the 23rd GCC Cup tournament.
A decision in this regard is expected at the commission's next meeting, due in Kuwait on July 27.
Speaking at a news conference after the extraordinary conference of the GCC federations' chairmen, held late on Thursday, Sheikh Talal said the conferees examined reports, presented by the committee, noting that the Kuwaiti stadiums were not prepared to host the games, due on December 22-January 4.
The commission is entitled to set date and venue of the championship.
Sheikh Talal expressed hope that the competent Kuwaiti authorities would meet terms, set for hosting the games, but criticized time-wasting bureaucratic procedures at state's departments.
Meanwhile, the conference renewed support for Qatar with respect of hosting the 2022 World Cup, saying some objections against Doha "might be based on racial, rather than sports or administrative reasons." (end) fsa.rk
