UK allocates 220 million pounds for Syrian refugees in neighboring countries -- Cameron

LONDON, June 24 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister David Cameron said Wednesday that the British government has allocated about 220 million pound sterling (about USD 347 million) to support the Syrian refugee camps in neighboring countries especially Jordan and Lebanon.
This came during Cameron's meeting with the Jordanian King Abdullah II last night, where the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and regional developments, particularly in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Egypt, as well the fight against extremism and terrorism in Africa.
The two sides agreed on the importance of a political solution to the Syrian crisis and to ensure the formation of an inclusive government as the best way to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) organization, and the need to support the efforts of the moderate opposition, spokeswoman for the prime minister's office said.
The two sides have discussed the efforts of the international coalition to fight the (ISIL) and support the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in order to form a comprehensive government as one of the "pivotal" solutions to fight (ISIL), she added.
On the Libyan file the two sides agreed on the importance of supporting the U.N. envoy to Libya, Bernardino Leon efforts to accelerate the formation of a national unity government be able to manage the serious conditions in the country, the spokeswoman said.
And on the Egyptian file they stressed the importance to work and cooperation with the Egyptian President Abdelatah Al-Sisi in order to ensure stability in Egypt, she added.
They also emphasized the need to fight corruption and bad Governance as one of the important solutions to fight extremism in the region and Africa in particular. (end) kd.ss
