PARIS, June 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is participating in meetings of an international government committee of oceans' sciences, currently underway at UNESCO's headquarters, where members exchange expertise about seas and oceans, as well as climate change.
Faisal Al-Hasawi, Deputy Director General of Fish Resources at Kuwait's Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Affairs, underlined importance of meetings that were taking place amidst key challenges like marine biological diversity, tsunami early warning systems, climate change and protecting marine environment.
Speaking to KUNA Monday, Al-Hasawi said Kuwait was keen on participating in the oceans' sciences committee meetings, which aimed at coordinating government efforts to address pollution.
He said Kuwait supported Oman's candidacy for a seat in the executive authority of the committee.
The committee was established in 1960 and has 138 member countries. (end) amm
