Kuwait's donation to Syrian refugees alleviated their suffering -- UNHCR

KUWAIT, June 21 (KUNA) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said the generous donation of Kuwait to the Syrian people of 100 million Kuwaiti dinars has contributed to alleviating of the suffering of around 3.5 million refugees living in 13 various Syrian provinces and in host countries.
The UNHCR's report for the month of December 2014 on the Syrian crisis said that this contribution was distributed according to the pressing needs of the Syrian refugees in Syria and in five neighboring countries, namely Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq.
It added that about 200,000 Syrian refugees in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey have received cash assistance to meet urgent basic needs and to prepare for next winter. Some 41,700 Syrian children will be able to join the Egyptian school system through scholarships.
It noted that 700,000 refugees have benefited from the distribution of basic relief items such as blankets and plastic sheets in Iraq, Syria and Turkey, pointing out that about 82,000 refugees in Lebanon and Turkey were able to obtain the necessary health care.(end) ako.amh.tg
