Kuwait ensures own food security, helps others - Expo wing chief

MILAN, Italy, June 11 (KUNA) -- The director of Kuwait's pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 said that Kuwait has been able to overcome the harsh desert conditions and ensure its own food security as well as help to ensure other nations'.
Mohammad Al-Baddah said, while briefing a visiting Italian university academic in reference to Expo's focus on food security, that aspects such reverse osmosis - the desalination of sea water - and fish and shrimp farming have helped maintain this on the local level.
Meanwhile, he said that Kuwait's humanitarian efforts on the international stage have received UN unprecedented adulation as His Highness the Amir was honored as a "humanitarian leader" and Kuwait as a "humanitarian centre".
These initiatives have not been bound by factors such as race, creed or faith and are distributed to impoverished nations by the Kuwaiti government or by local charities.
For his part, the Administrative Director of Milan's University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Mario Gatti hailed what he had witnessed at the pavilion, saying he believed this reflects the scale of development and unique cultural identity of the nation.
He also expressed admiration at the presence of a modern art movement in the tiny Arab Gulf country after having witnessed several paintings belonging to local artists on display at the exhibition.
The academic went on to note to several journalism courses currently on offer at his university and urged Kuwaiti officials to consider a student exchange. (end) sd
