Bomb attack kills 15, wounds 38 Iraqis in Diyala

BAGHDAD, June 7 (KUNA) -- An explosive-laden vehicle blew up slose to a security checkpoint in Bald Ruz town, some 60 km to the southwest of Baaquba city, Diyala governorate, central Iraq, on Saturday, killing 15 people and wounding 38 others.
The casualties include several policemen, a local security source told KUNA, noting that the bombing hit near an ice factory and shops close to the checkpoint.
The security services cordoned off the area while ambulances rushed the victims to the nearby hospitals, the source added.
The blast bears the hallmarks of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) which has been active in Diyala since it captured large swathes of the governorate in last June.
Bald Ruz saw a deadly bomb attack on a Husseiniya on May 8 when 22 people were killed and 40 others wounded.(end) mhg.gb
