Lebanese army receives 40 Humvees from US

BEIRUT, June 6 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese Army announced Saturday that it has received a shipment of 40 four-wheel drive Humvees military automboiles from the United States as part of the US assistance program to the army.
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), known as the Humvee, is produced by AM General.
The US Security Assistance Program to Lebanon is designed to enhance the Lebanese army's capabilities in preserving interior security, countering terrorism, securing Lebanon's borders, and implementing the UNSC resolution 1701 (2006).
Recently, Washington has increased the pace of its military assistance to the Lebanese army following several military confrontations between Lebanese soldiers and armed groups on the outskirts of the eastern mountain range between Lebanon and Syria. (end) ayb.ma
