GENEVA, June 4 (KUNA) -- UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres expressed on Thursday his gratitude and appreciations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his humanitarian support and endeavors that serve humanitarian action.
While visiting the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva, Guterres said the whole world has voiced its thanks to His Highness the Amir's humanitarian action that is highly appreciated and admired by all agencies working in this field.
The UN official affirmed his intention to visit Kuwait to voice his gratitude to His Highness the Amir, Kuwaiti government and people for remarkable humanitarian stances in response to disasters in general and the Syrian crisis in particular.
Guterres said Kuwait has become a major donor country to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in a bid to alleviate the suffering of refugees and vulnerable people.
On his part, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Jamal Al-Ghoneim said Guterres briefed him on a detailed review of the financial position of the commissioner, particularly financial support, humanitarian action, income and funding.
Al-Ghoneim lauded the commissioner's transparency with Kuwait that reflects mutual confidence and close cooperation in various fields aiming to alleviate the suffering of refugees. (end) ta.hm
